Adventure Awaits Us At Home

Beauty & the Beast – A Tale as Old as Time

Are you a Beauty & the Beast fan? I love the story and the music. For years I told my husband that we should do this for Halloween. But we never did.

Although I am far from Belle and my husband is even further from a beast, we do have a 100-pound difference and a foot difference in height! So I always thought it would be a cute idea.  So, Halloween 2020 seemed like the perfect time!

And what better way to start off October 2022 with Halloween fast approaching than with a Tale as Old as Time.

The Ballroom

Besides the costumes and decorating, like our Grease theme, we decided this would be a great theme to reenact the dancing parts from the ballroom scene. To prepare, we replayed the scene several times and took snap shots of the parts we could do.

Although I did not think to take a video at the time, you can check out the slideshow on YouTube here.

The Costumes

My husband’s costume was fun. As I have mentioned before, I try to reuse things we have but I had to buy his mask, blue coat and tail from Amazon. He had the ruffled shirt and black pants from our Pirates of the Caribbean theme.

After searching for a gold gown for Belle, I came across this dress from Neman Marcus. Although it is nowhere close to Belle’s, and it is yellow, I decided it didn’t matter. I made it into what I called a modern Belle.

My hair was an attempt at her bun. As always, it wasn’t quite right. But you get the idea.

The Decor

Since this is an epic love story, I wanted our family room to feel like an enchanted castle.

The table was set with my version of the main characters and other accents from the movie. I used our china coffee pot and cup for Mrs. Potts and Chip, a candelabra for Lumiere, a round clock for Cogsworth, and a feather duster for Plumette. I also added stacked books for Belle being a bookworm along with the Enchanted Mirror. And of course the table wouldn’t be complete without the Enchanted Rose.

When we use our family room for our themes or holidays, I like to add something related to the theme to the tv (mostly because I do not want the big black box messing up the mood!). This time it was the ballroom from the movie.

To add to the ambience, I wanted a romantic vibe. And what castle is complete without candles? We had the tall candlesticks and some white candles. But I did buy more for this occasion. However, we used for many more themes, romantic dinners and date nights by the fireplace.

Since I love roses, and the rose is the trademark of the story, I added a bouquet to the fireplace along with more candles. In addition, I printed two photos from the ballroom scene for the mantle.

Unlike our other themes, this was all about the costumes, the reenacting and the decorating. So we didn’t have any themed food or drinks. We ended the night by ordering sushi!

It was a fun and romantic costume date night.

Although it is hard to choose, I think this was my favorite! I asked my husband as I was getting this blog together which was his favorite. He said Beauty & the Beast.

But we did love all of them.

The End

Although it is a little hard for me to believe, this is the last of the 2020/2021 themes! But, we’ll still be sharing upcoming fun date nights, holidays, special occasions, vacations, and occasional couples costumes. I have no doubt that adventures will still await us.  They just won’t all be at home!
