Adventure Awaits Us At Home

Toga Party at Home

Welcome to our Toga Party!

Toga Toga! What do you do in September 2020 when things start to re-open after the covid shutdown? You have a toga party! We decided to have a very small gathering at home. Our close group of friends were comfortable as we held the party outside. And because 2020 was all about themes for us, of course this party had to have one too!

Like all of our themes, which you can browse through here, I did my research regarding all things Toga. Once I found what I needed, I worked on my own spin on it.

This one was a lot fun. But I will say that I became a little obsessed with this theme!

As with all things, there were lots of ideas. But it all comes down to what I think I can do myself.

Check out our YouTube video here.

The Food

Menu

We had way too much food for 12 people!

In addition to my menu, friends added: hummus, grapes, vegetables, and cookies. Some cookies were shaped for the Greek theme!

It’s not a toga party unless you feed the Greek god grapes!

The Costumes

My husband, as usual, was amazing. He was a willing participant with the toga! Haha! And he helped in every way possible that day, including most of the clean up. If you are new here, or just want to look back and see why he’s the best husband ever, click here.

I chose a white goddess dress vs a toga, which I bought from Amazon as well as my accessories. I loved my headband, hair pins, earrings and arm bands. I also bought shoes that looked Grecian. Well at least to me!

Although not pictured (for privacy) our friends humored me with this party. They came in theme with togas or goddess dresses! Two friends surprised me with their husbands wearing “Toga Security” t-shirts. I didn’t expect them in theme so this was a fun surprise!

The Decor

Here’s where the obsession came in and the cost. Although I have tried to keep our themes on a small budget, this one was an exception.  As you can see, I decided on a gold and white theme.  But the problem was…everything had to be gold and white – EVERYTHING!

For all parties and even for some with just us, I plan my serving pieces ahead of time. Depending on the occasion, I also set up the table ahead of time to make sure everything has its place. Most times I also mark the serving pieces with what goes in them. Yes, I am a little detail oriented! Although my husband has another word for it!

I also covered the folding chairs in white sheets and tied with strings of vines. Green vines were allowed! That was an unnecessary project but seemed needed at the time!

I “had to” buy balloons, plates, napkins, serving plates, utensils, and even plastic wine glasses. It got a little out of hand! And even more so once I decided on making two dishes in crockpots. I only have one white one. So since both were slow cooking all day, once done I moved one to my white rice cooker. Just a little ridiculous on my part! But I did have the table cloth, cherub and harp. One friend brought the beautiful sunflowers.

The Evening

A toga party song list was a little tedious to put together so I eventually gave up on that. But no toga party is complete without Shout by the Isley Brothers! All of the girls danced to that one!

As the evening got chilly, the fire pit was a cozy place to end the night.

We had a great time eating, catching up and dancing. It was nice to feel like things were normal.

Thanks for reading. We hope you enjoyed!

As is said in Greek, Stin Yeia Mas! To our health!
