St. Patrick’s Day Date Night at Home

As the saying goes, everyone is a little Irish on St. Patrick’s Day! So as it approaches, I am sharing our little celebration at home in 2021. I don’t know about you, but I have never been into St. Patrick’s Day. Mostly because I do not like to go out on “party nights” related to holidays. But, since our new thing was date nights in, I decided why not make it a little festive at home and add in a themed meal.  Ok, so maybe it was two! My husband is always up for a fun night.

You can check out our latest YouTube video here.

Decorations

As with every holiday (except Christmas) and theme we have shared so far, this was my first time decorating for St. Patrick’s Day. Like I said, it just was never my thing. But, since we were still fairly restricted in March 2021, why not keep our themes going? However, I did tame down the decorations a little.

The Dollar Tree once again came to the rescue. They had some really cute things. I spent $7 on the decorations for this theme! You can do this too! It took very little time and money to decorate.

We had two larger felt shamrocks, a wooden shamrock, and a leprechaun on the windows ($4). Then the little shamrocks came in a pack of 10 ($1). I just spread them around in various places.

On the mantle, the pots came in a pack of 5 ($1). So I added some green tissue paper and gold coins that we had from our Pirates of the Caribbean theme. Every leprechaun needs a pot of gold, right? Even the “Irish Wishes and Shamrock Kisses” tabletop sign came from there ($1).

I filled in with things we had. Did someone say candles? I used green, yellow, white and gold this time. Then we had floating candles with food coloring like we did for our Mardi Gras theme.

In addition we have another tree decorated for the occasion!  This is decorated with more little shamrocks plus white, green and yellow ribbon plus St. Patrick’s Day beads.  Feel free to browse all of our trees here

There is also ribbon hanging from he mantle.  Then next to the pots of gold, there is a little green pouch that I filled with tissue paper and stuffed in more gold coins. We also had gold beads that I added as well along with some green Christmas balls.

Two Date Nights, One Holiday!

We had a casual table set up using colorful plates and bowls that I bought previously for our Mardi Gras celebration. They came in a variety of colors so we can switch it up and coordinate with our themes.

Dinner

As for the themed food, corned beef and cabbage immediately came to mind but that is in no way appetizing for me. I am not even sure I have had it more than once in my life. But, I grew up eating corned beef specials and always loved them.  While this may not be in any way Irish, it worked for us. At least it was corned beef! Also, potatoes are usually a part of a traditional Irish meal. For us, that was steak fries!

Make it your own. That’s what we do!

Another traditional meal is Shepherd’s Pie. I have never had it. So I looked into it. Traditionally, it is made with mashed potatoes, peas, and carrots. Although it may not seem like it when you see our themed meals, we do try to watch what we eat and generally lean towards lower carb meals. After some research, I came across this recipe for a lower carb version of Shepherd’s Pie made with mashed cauliflower. Also, my husband hates peas so the replacement green beans worked out well! We both enjoyed it. But, since I had nothing to compare it to, I cannot vouch for it tasting like the real thing.  We did add red roasted potatoes. So much for low carb!

Somehow, I neglected to make a St. Patrick’s Day dessert. But, there’s always this year I guess!

Just Us

As you can see, we didn’t feel the need to “dress up” in theme or in anything fancy. We just enjoyed our time together with some good food and listened to some Celtic Women music too. But we at least had some of our Irish going on.

Date nights at home do not have to be expensive, fancy, or creative. It is all about being with your loved one and having a nice night. Adding in a little fun never hurts!

  1. What a cute evening together…date nights at home are honestly the best. Its fun to decorate and cook together. Looks like you guys had a lovely night! ^_^

  2. I love how you decorated your home for St. Patrick’s Day. The tree with the shamrocks is so cute. My husband is partially disabled so we don’t get to go out often. It is date night at home for us for most occasions. I will take inspiration from you and decorate our home for a special date night.

Oh wow, it sounds like you go all out to celebrate this. I am sure it makes for a fun time at yours.

  4. Looks like you had an interesting celebration. Over here in Ireland we really don’t decorate, it’s more of a day off and time at the pub!

  5. I don’t really do anything for st patricks day, I don’t think it’s as common here, or at least where we are in the UK. It’s very cool that you decorate for so many holidays x

  6. We have decorated more too, since the pandemic began. I used to not care unless it was Christmas, but this is actually fun. 🙂

  7. This is such a great idea, you’ve done a lovely job of decorating for it! I’m the same as you, I’m not a fan of nights out on holidays, everyone seems to go over the top

  8. I always love seeing how you go all out on the decor and set up. It is nice seeing you guys dressed more casually this time. Still look just as great but I was definitely getting jealous over all the beautiful dresses and heels you have lol

  9. These are such great decoration ideas!! till now I didn’t really think much about decorating for St. Patrick’s Day
